And now, it's March.

Sigh. I fell off the proverbial recording wagon, due to traveling and wanting to avoid dealing with my problems. Of course, this is how I got into this mess in the first place.

Current weight: 262
Previous weight: 262.8
Delta: .8 pounds.

On the plus side, I went to the gym today. I would like to go at least 3 times this week. One down, 2 to go.

Must take 56 days off from work to bowl.

"100 pounds is the average weight of a 20-year old male.

How Much Fuel Is That?

To lose that amount of fat would mean to burn 350,000 calories or 1,464,400 KiloJoules! That is the equivalent of 11.34 gallons of gasoline. Humans, however, are far more efficient than cars, getting about 912 "miles to the gallon". If you could dump this many calories into the tank of a Honda Civic, you would be able to drive it about 384 miles before running out of gas!
Let's see how your goal would convert to other forms of fuel. 350,000 calories is equivalent to:
  • 11.34 gallons of gasoline, or
  • 125.05 pounds of coal, or
  • 173.65 pounds of oven-dried wood, or
  • 15.34 gallons of propane
This amount of energy would ...
  • Brew about 976 pots of coffee, or
  • Light a 60-watt light bulb for 6,780 hours ( 282 days = 0.83 years)

Cutting 350,000 calories is the same as saying "no" to:

  • 4,375 apples, or
  • 3,500 bananas, or
  • 20,588 cups of cabbage (whew!), or
  • 2,414 baked potatoes, or
  • 4,375 large eggs, or
  • 2,917 cups of 2% milk, or
  • 252 pounds of ground beef, or
  • 4,023 glasses of wine, or
  • 1,084 Snickers bars, or
  • 1,458 Clif Bars ( 1,944 Luna Bars), or
  • 2,518 cans of Coke, or
  • 2,059 pints of Guinness beer, or
  • 711 Big Macs, or
  • 680 Quarter Pounders with Cheese, or
  • 500 Whoppers, or
  • 1,061 Subway 6" Oven Roasted Chicken Breast sandwiches, or
  • 2,059 Taco Bell crunchy tacos, or
  • 1,489 slices of pepperoni pizza from Pizza Hut

What it Takes to Burn 350,000 Calories

To burn 350,000 calories, a 190 pound male would have to:
  • Backpack for 579 hours (24 days) nonstop, or
  • Walk for 1,341 hours (56 days) at 3 mph straight, or
  • Walk 4,023 miles (2,514 kilometers), or
  • Bike for 1,014 hours (42 days) at 10 mph, or
  • Bike 10,145 miles (6,341 kilometers), or
  • Play basketball nonstop for 558 hours 23 days), or
  • Play billiards for 1,620 hours (68 days), or
  • Go bowling for 1,351 hours (56 days), or
  • Stay on the golf course for 1,014 hours (42 days), or
  • Spend 451 hours (19 days) playing competitive football, or
  • Jump rope for 426 hours (18 days) straight!
You would have to walk the length of England about 6.73 times to burn 350,000 calories.

How Long it Will Take?

The range for safe weight loss is about 1 to 3 pounds of fat per week. It could take anywhere between 33 to 100 weeks (8 to 23 months) to safely and reasonably lose that amount of weight."

This week in sports...

This was a good exercise week.

There has been a lot of walking for fun, but I also went to the gym 3 times. Two of the three days, I did a half an hour of cardio on the elliptical and weight lifted for an hour. Today, I was supposed to meet my workout buddy and she bailed on me. I still headed to the gym and I am proud of myself for it! I did 30 minutes on the elliptical.

That is 2830 calories burned this week. I would like to predictably be able to burn 3500 calories a week (or 1 pound of fat). In order to do that, I would need to add another weight lifting session and one more running session.

Now all I have to do is be better about counting those calories daily.

Wednesday Weight

Previous weight: 264
Current weight:  262.8
Delta: -2.2 pounds

Well, you have to start somewhere at least and that is two pounds lighter than I was last week. I was hoping for a number around 5 pounds, but that is a good start.

This past week, I tried to start some better habits. I have been cooking at home more and eating a lot more vegetables. This week, I will go to the gym at least 3x. I have already been twice and I am meeting a friend on Friday.

Fuel for thought.

My calorie count today is not too bad. I cut down on the lattes and ate two meals at home. I also ate a ton of vegetables today, since our CSA box needed to be finished.  I need to try to space out my meals more and drink more water. Today, I did not drink nearly enough to flush out my system. Also, no exercise today.

Fuel for thought

Today's food totals were a little high!
I went to see a movie with a large group at the Alamo Drafthouse, and they were out of the one healthy thing that I enjoy there, spaghetti squash with chicken. Between dinner and all of the lattes that I drank, I ate more than I should have. I either need to switch to plain coffee or limit myself to one latte a day. Also, I was achy from yesterday's exercise, so I did not go to the gym today.
